I am an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts University. I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Università di Roma La Sapienza in 2008 and 2010, respectively, and my Ph.D. degree in Electrical Sciences and Computer Engineering from Brown University, Providence in 2016. Before joining Tufts, I was a Research Associate in Harvard University’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences working in the Architecture, Circuits, and Compilers group. My research interests include novel design methodologies targeting energy-efficient and reliable circuits and architectures for emerging computing paradigms.

Zihan Zhang
PhD Student

My name is Zihan Zhang and I am a Ph.D. student at Tufts University. I received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Delaware in 2017 and a master’s degree in 2020. My research interests are deep learning, nonvolatile memory, SoC design, and semiconductor devices. Aside from work, I enjoy traveling and listening to hip-hop music.

Zirui Fu
PhD Student

Zirui Fu is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts University. He joined the TECS Lab in 2021, advised by Professor Marco Donato. He received his M.S. in Computer Engineering at New York University in the same year and B.S. in Electrical Engineering at University of California, Irvine in 2017. He worked in the FPGA and MCU R&D industry from 2018 to 2019. His research focuses on co-designing energy-efficient high-performance neural network hardware utilizing emerging non-volatile memory technologies. Zirui is also passionate about aviation and board games. He has earned his private pilot license in 2016 and stayed active until now.

Henry Ammirato
Undergraduate Student

Henry is an undergraduate at Tufts University studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. He joined TECS in 2022, advised by Professor Marco Donato. His research interests focus on emerging non-volatile memory technology and semiconductor devices. He has worked at Champlin Associates to help install municipal water systems and controls. He is also interested in hiking and carpentry.

Sandro Avaliani
Undergraduate Student

Sandro is from Tbilisi, Georgia. He is an undergraduate student at Tufts University, studying Computer Engineering and Physics. He joined TECS in the summer of 2022, with research focused on co-design of neural networks and emerging memory technologies. He enjoys kart racing and listening to numerous genres of music, including techno, progressive rock, and electronica.

Emma Claus
Undergraduate Student

Emma is an undergraduate at Tufts University studying Electrical Engineering. She joined TECS in 2023, advised by Professor Marco Donato. Her research interests focus on emerging non-volatile memory technology. Additionally, she is a member of the Tufts varsity swim team and enjoys training in her free time.

Kevin Sui
Undergraduate Student

Kevin is an undergraduate student at Tufts University studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He joined the TECS Lab in 2023, advised by Professor Marco Donato. His research interests focus on designing neural networks hardware for online training and emerging memory technologies. He has worked at KLA Corporation for emerging metrology machines and customer demos in 2022. He also enjoys hiking and working on random projects. In his free time, Kevin can be found in the Tufts Electric Racing garage.

Tolu Agboola
PhD Student

Tolu is a MS/Ph.D. student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program at Tufts University. He received his bachelors degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Covenant University, Ogun State, Nigeria in 2022. His research interests are in the hardware and software co-design for high-performance and energy-efficient computer hardware for machine learning and IoT applications.
