Here is a picture of me back in 1986 running for the College of William and Mary. This was in the fall of my senior year. I'm 21 years old in the picture. If I remember correctly, this picture was from my best 10K race in cross country. I believe my time was 33:42 on a grassy, hilly course. The course record was barely under 30 minutes set by a Kenyan runner a year or two earlier.

For my seventh year in a row running the Boston Marathon, I repeated my strategy of last year and ran the race without training for it. Again, my daily milage had dropped to around 2 miles a day (2.25 to be exact) and although I had time to train for it, I just didn't get inspiration to do so. This time I paid the price. It was an especially warm day to run (in the 80's) and my time suffered, being the first time I did not break 4 hours. My final time, after some walking, was 4 hours and 23 minutes.

Directions to the race are as follows. Take the Mass Pike (90) to Exit 11A (the exit for 495) and head south towards the Cape on 495. Take exit 21B (Hopkinton exit about a mile or so later) and that will get you to the bus drop off area (note that exit 21A is closed).
FYI, race starts at noon so arriving around 11:00am is a good idea. Don't
need to do a warm up run since the first few miles of the marathon are
dog slow, but stretching wouldn't hurt.
